A.K. Lama: Testimonial

Testimonial from Dr. Ajoy Kumar Lama

While I was studying veterinary science, I came in contact with some Christian students whose sincere love compelled me to join their Bible study. In this Bible study group, I met few more godly men and women, who encouraged me to ask questions and verbalize my doubts as a Buddhist. They visited me when I was sick and helped me financially when I was in crisis. They genuinely loved me and cared for me. For two years I continued to join their Bible study. Gradually, the Word of God and their godly lifestyle began to convict me of my sin.

After about a year, I had begun to understand how Jesus was indeed the only true Savior and God, but it was still very difficult for me to embrace Christianity. My fear of persecution and the cost of discipleship postponed my decision for Christ. In my state (Arunachal Pradesh in northeast India), Christianity is an illegal religion. Persuading anyone for conversion to Christianity, or getting converted to Christianity without the approval of the government is punishable under law (fine of Rs. 10,000 and imprisonment for ten years under the Indigenous Faith Bill Act, 1974). But finally, on October 24, 1983, in an evening fellowship meeting, the Spirit of God convicted me. I felt the awesome presence of God, and I stood up with tears in my eyes. There was no more fear, but only a desire to follow Jesus Christ for the rest of my life. That evening I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.
